Botanical
garden

Designed by Jean & Frédérique Thoby, this conservatory garden was inspired by forests and is home to several thematic collections. While the traditional 17th-century structure remains formal, the freer English-style planting has a more natural feel. With 70% deciduous plants and 30% evergreen plants, every element of the garden – from autumn leaves and cuttings to ripe fruit – provides during decomposition nutrients that the garden needs to stay autonomous without outside help.

This first structured part of the garden is aligned with the western exit of the Château de Gaujacq. The thematic gardens naturally intertwine: 55 forms of Wisteria, 38 forms of Cryptomeria (Japanese cedars), 50 Acer (maple) and over 2,000 Camellia...

Abelia

Abelia
chinensis

From the Caprifoliaceae family, like honeysuckle, this Abelia is rather rare today. Discovered by Clarke Abel in 1816, it has been cultivated since 1844. A simple compact shrub that is very easy to grow, this taxon deserves more recognition, as it has superb qualities: - Excellent melliferous properties, perfuming the air with its sweet scent. - Its long blossoming period enchants us for the entire hot season or longer.
